My Teaching Philosophy

Listed below are the ten statements I have created that compromise my personal teaching philosophy:

1.) The purpose of education is to prepare students for adulthood, assist students in developing social-emotional skills, help students to determine their individuality through their interests and skills, and to teach social responsibility all while developing academic skills.

2.) The teacher takes on many roles. These roles include being a resource, instructor, mentor, supporter, protector, leader, and motivator.

3.) Teachers are responsible for fostering the individuality of their students. Each student has personal learning preferences and differences. Effective educators use those differences to reach each of their students on their independent levels.

4.) Teachers are responsible for mentoring and motivating their students by demonstrating positive behaviors inside of the classroom and in society.

5.) Educators are ethically responsible for treating students equally and avoiding any discriminatory practices. Every student deserves fair treatment and equal access to materials, curriculum, and opportunities.

6.) Teachers must be open to varying points of view and cannot prevent students from points of view that differ from their own.

8.) Teachers should create a classroom community that mimics the function of real-world communities. This community should teach students to work cooperatively and appreciate the differences of their community members.

7.) Teachers must prioritize, practice, and encourage healthy communication. Healthy communication is a particularly crucial factor in developing and maintaining an effective classroom community.

8.) Students should play an active role in their education. Teachers should encourage student input and active participation in planning classroom activities they are interested in.

9.) Teachers are responsible for being professionals. They must maintain professional relationships with their students, parents, colleagues, and superiors.

10.) Teachers should encourage positive social change among their students both within the classroom and the community. They should encourage their students to ask questions, stand up for their beliefs, stand up for others, and value individuality.
